Since moving to Menifee in 2000, I have participated in fairly regular conversations about high school unification. For those unfamiliar with the situation, Menifee is a K-8 school district and Perris Union High School District runs our high schools. Many residents and prospective residents would like to see Perris turn over the high school responsibility to Menifee schools. This would be a massive undertaking but has been done by school districts in the past. With the right people in the right positions, it can happen. The city planners want unification and most residents want unification.

As a 19-year homeowner in the area, I have paid many bonds to the Perris High School District in my property taxes and have failed to see much progress on developing our high schools. There is an obvious disparity of money that has been spent on the high schools in Perris City boundaries vs. Menifee City boundaries. With the most recent bond, Perris has said that they have allocated $75 million towards a new high school but has not yet broken ground. They are now asking for another bond to finish the job. In good faith, I believe they should break ground and build something for Menifee in the meantime.

The admin at PUSD has recently changed and maybe this new admin will stick to their word. However, I would really like to see some progress first. I would like to see the unification process started, at least a partial school up and running, and some physical return on investment. Until then, I am against more bonds for PUSD.
